| High Performance Products from Tyvek by DuPont™ |
| 02/12/2008 |
DuPont continues to roll out new products that better meet the needs and demands of today’s building industry. DrainWrap, RoofLiner and Flashing Tape represent new and redesigned products that were developed to perform better on the job site, and potentially save builders time and money.

Tyvek® DrainWrap™ is the latest in house wraps from DuPont. Much like StuccoWrap, it has variegated vertical grooves that function as a drainage plane allowing moisture to escape from behind claddings such as primed wood, fiber cement siding and foam board applied over flat substrates. The inherent water-resistance properties of DuPont™ Tyvek® are enhanced by the vertical grooves on the surface that help channel bulk water that penetrates through claddings.
Developed in response to widespread builder request, the breathable structure allows moisture vapor to pass through to promote drying in wall systems and help prevent the formation of mold and mildew. Truitt & White buyer John Niemeier says, “There continues to be serious concern about mold issues and trapped moisture. DrainWrap provides an air and water barrier as well as a drainage plane that addresses these issues”
Easy installation. Dependable performance
Because DrainWrap is pliable, it easily wraps around corners, interfaces at joints and over architectural elements. It’s lightweight, making it easier to handle and faster to install and carries a 10-Year Limited Warranty
Truitt & White has brought the new DrainWrap into stock, and while it is slightly more expensive than HomeWrap, the added cost is minimal when taken in the context of overall materials cost of a project. It’s a small price to pay notes John. “Using DrainWrap is one way to keep mold and moisture from becoming unfortunate problems for the homeowner and contractor.”

DuPont™ RoofLiner with Elvaloy® is a welcome alternative to roofing felt for sloped commercial, residential new construction and re-roofing applications. There are 10 squares in every 47’x 256” roll. That means each roll of RoofLiner equals five rolls of 30 lb. felt. The result is fewer overlaps, seams and fasteners – reducing both labor and waste.
Unlike felt, which can dry and braid over time and with exposure to heat, RoofLiner retains its shape and dimensions. A stronger material overall, RoofLiner is also less apt to tear in windy conditions on the job site. Installers say they appreciate the tactile surface and lighter weight, which makes it easier to handle.
“It’s an enormous improvement over felt” says buyer John Niemeier “and should do very well in our marketplace”. RoofLiner is now in stock at Truitt & White in 47” x 256’ rolls.

DuPont Flashing Tape is a 4-inch flashing tape with adhesive that has permanently replaced Tyvek 4” StraightFlash. The 4” Flashing Tape has a polyolefin face rather than a Tyvek face and retains the butyl base backed adhesive making it a more cost effective product while sacrificing none of the performance characteristics. The Dupont Flashing Tape is not to be confused with the 2” and 3” Tyvek Tape that is a clear tape used to seal seams of various Tyvek Weatherization Systems helping to provide a continuous barrier.
“The Dupont Flashing Tape is high quality, asphalt-free and there is a cost savings. It is less expensive than the Tyvek 4” StraightFlash it replaces with no downside that I can see,” says John. Tyvek recommends use of their whole system – DrainWrap, StraightFlash or Flashing Tape and sealant – as part of a complete weatherization system. “If you use all Tyvek and DuPont products you don’t have to worry about callbacks or dealing with several warrantee programs, and there’s a single contact if something needs to be addressed.” |
