Green Building Fair

Huge turnout proves green is gold

If the attendance at the Green Building Fair is a barometer of how big green building has become, it’s a safe bet to say: people are ready for it.

Held the same day as the successful Build It Green Home Tour, The Green Building Fair at Truitt and White on May 1 was a big hit with homeowners and industry professionals interested in green building.

Attracting many of the tour participants, as well as others interested in green building and remodeling, the enthusiastic crowd proved that consumers are much more aware of green building and its advantages than ever before.

Attendees were treated to informative updates on specific products by vendors, enjoyed food and drinks provided by Truitt and White and Build It Green, and ramped up on green building techniques by various organizations.

“The Green Building Fair gave Truitt and White an opportunity to gauge the enthusiasm for green building on a broader level,” says Mark Pearsall, Truitt and White’s vice president of sales and marketing.

He notes that most attendees weren’t asking ‘What is green building?’

“They were asking, ‘What does this product do and what are my choices?’ There was definitely a level of knowledge that wasn’t there a few years back,” Mark adds.

Stephanie Kiser, Building Material Distributors (BMD), was impressed at how many people were interested in green building. “People were really into the meat and potatoes of green building,” Stephanie says. “They were asking how much products were, how they compared to other products, and what makes a product green” says Stephanie.

Popular products at the BMD booth included TimberTech, a composite decking product, Johns Manville insulation, and lots of interest in Solatube.

“Green building is going more mainstream. More and more people are getting interested in it. More people are getting concerned about their environment,” Stephanie adds.
